The Green Bay Packers made a somewhat surprising deal at the NFL’s trade deadline on Tuesday by shipping veteran Rasul Douglas and a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills for a 2024 third-rounder. Several players will need to step up in his absence.

Douglas was playing the best football of his career before the Packers traded him. He’s been all over the field, reading offenses and anticipating where the football is going to go. His play has been one of the few bright spots in Green Bay this season.

It wasn’t just on the field where his impact will be missed, however, as he was seen as a leader in the locker room. There are plenty of players who looked up to him. His presence will be missed on and off the field, prompting these three players to step up in his absence.

These three defensive backs on the Green Bay Packers need to step up after they traded Rasul Douglas at the trade deadline.

Carrington Valentine

With Eric Stokes on the injured reserve, Carrington Valentine is the most likely player to step into Douglas’s shoes as the starter. Valentine had an impressive training camp and preseason, quickly ascending the depth chart. However, it’s been tough sledding when he’s been on the field this year, as opposing quarterbacks have picked on him. The ball will come is way. He must be ready to rise to the challenge.
