The Green Bay Packers made a somewhat shocking move on Tuesday when they traded away Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills. It’s a move that has generated plenty of debate about the pros and cons.

The NFL was more active at this deadline than in the past, and Green Bay wanted to get involved. They sent Douglas and a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Bills in exchange for a 2023 fifth-rounder.

It’s a move that clearly signals the Packers are in a rebuilding mode, an era they haven’t been in for a long time. That’s a hard pill to swallow in an already dampened season. However, it’s the harsh reality. Because nothing is absolute, let’s check out some pros and cons of the Douglas trade.

Here are the pros and cons to the Green Bay Packers trading away Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills at the trade deadline.

Pro: Improved Draft Selection

The Bills will likely pick at the end of the third round, and the Packers will likely pick toward the beginning of the fifth. The swap of those two selections is mitigated, as it most likely means Green Bay will receive a pick in the low 90s while giving away one around 140.

That’s not as big of a gap as thinking of a fifth and third-rounder, but it’s still improved draft stock for a team that has a lot of holes. Green Bay will now have a first-rounder, two seconds and two thirds heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. That’s plenty of ammunition to add much-needed talent to the roster.
