Packers Off to Surprising Starts: Rudy Ford

Dare I say it? Rudy Ford has been an adequate safety for the Packers, something they haven’t had at the position for a couple of years.

Ford was engaged in a preseason battle with numerous other players for the starting safety spot alongside Darnell Savage. Ford emerged as the victor thanks to his willingness to provide run support and his physicality. Those are two strengths that have helped him become one of the better Packers’ defenders through five games this season.

As Savage has battled injuries and continued to be inconsistent, Ford has provided Green Bay with some stability at the position. He’s proven he’s more than just an exclusive special teams player and is off to a great start this season.
