The bullpen can lock down games.

The Brewers bullpen has been the strength of this team since 2018. The pen currently has the league’s third-best ERA and fourth-ranked WHIP.

Trevor Megill, Bryse Wilson, Hoby Milner, and Abner Uribe have been outstanding. Devin Williams is one of the most dominant closers in the game.

Joel Payamps had a good April through August. He has been shaky in September. If he can get it right, that is another effective high-leverage pitcher coming out of the pen. Andrew Chafin is a veteran who can get outs, although it has been an adventure.

Adrian Houser should be added to the pen, which boosts the relief corp in October.

The team has the arms to hold a lead, although blowing it is another way this team is getting eliminated.

There have been times this month when the offense has been able to come back only to see the bullpen give the lead back.

Still, you have to like the chances of the team keeping the lead or at least the game in hand when they turn to the bullpen.

Not being phased by being in a tight game.

The Milwaukee Brewers are 28-18 in one-run games with a plus-nine run differential.

The Crew has 41 comeback victories this year. This team does not panic because their manager stays cool under pressure. Craig Counsell is one of the few managers in the game who can press the right button at the right time and get a winning result.

This might be his swan song with the Brewers, as his contract expires after the season. You can be sure he will be locked in and have the team ready for any situation.

The Brewers’ offense has varied from terrible to inconsistent. One thing they have shown is that they can grind out a win after being down.

If Counsell continues to make the right decisions and the bats come through in the clutch, Milwaukee might be hosting a championship parade when it is all said and done.
