Packers Notebook: Final Thoughts About Saints Game
Final Thoughts: Packers Special Teams
Anders Carlson: The rookie sixth-round pick has gotten off to an excellent start to the season, as he’s perfect through the first two weeks. However, it’s clear Green Bay is still working on building trust with him. Carlson, known for his booming leg, was on the sideline for what would’ve been a 56-yard field goal attempt on the Packers’ opening possession vs. the Falcons. Instead, Matt LaFleur chose to punt inside in a dome. If that’s not the situation you brought in a new kicker with a stronger leg for, I’m not sure what is.
Matt Orzech: Orzech has been inconsistent to begin the season and needs to clean some things up. Daniel Whelan saved him on a field goal attempt by snatching a poor snap and getting it down in time. That won’t always be the case.
Lambeau Field: We’ve seen specialists excel in the past, but struggle in Lambeau Field, especially when the weather turns. It will still be nice out on Sunday, but Winter is Coming. Will Carlson and Whelan continue their strong performances in less-than-ideal scenarios? We won’t get the full answer against the Saints, but it will be another test for the Packers’ kicker and punter.
