The Milwaukee Bucks head into this season with championship hopes after falling well short of a title during the last campaign.

The Bucks were stunningly eliminated by the Miami Heat in the first round of the NBA playoffs despite being the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

It turned out that upset was not a flash in the pan as the Heat went all the way to the NBA Finals.

The team’s core four is back after Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton re-signed in the offseason after testing free agency. Hopefully, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and Middleton will all be healthy come playoff time.

The Bucks had a semifinal exit in the 2022 playoffs after Middleton was lost to a knee injury in the first round. Giannis missed a couple of games in that first-round series loss to the Heat.

The last time all three were healthy and played together in the playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA title in 2021.

Middleton regaining his All-Star form is something to be worried about. His numbers were way down as Middleton worked his way back from various ailments that limited how much he played. Middleton did end up averaging 23.8 points per game in the Heat series.

The one area to be concerned with regarding the Milwaukee Bucks is at backup point guard.

Javon Carter departed the team in the offseason to join the Chicago Bulls. There is not much depth behind Holiday.

The Bucks currently have Lindell Wigginton and TyTy Washington Jr. on the roster. The only problem is both are on two-way contracts. They also have Jazian Gortman on an Exhibit 10 contract.

That is not exactly the collection of backup players you want on a contending team.

Bringing up the ball is not going to be a problem as Middleton and Giannis can both do that. Giannis can run the point if you need him to. Grayson Allen can also play point guard in a pinch.

The problem is that neither are great ball distributors.

Giannis and Middleton are going to be on some sort of load management, so it is not like you are going to have them available every game.

If Holiday goes down with an injury, the Milwaukee Bucks might be in trouble.

There is not much left in free agency. However, Cameron Payne is a viable option to bring into camp.

General manager Jon Horst would have to cut someone as the Bucks are already at the roster limit.

The team is going to rely on some of their younger players to help the rotation. Wigginton and Washington Jr. are a steep drop-off from Holiday. That is a major cause for concern.
