Packers That Can Lock Up Roster Spots: Anthony Johnson Jr.

The Packers have a gigantic mess at safety. Darnell Savage is a lame-duck starter, entering the final year of his contract and only on the team because they couldn’t cut or trade him. Tarvarius Moore, Rudy Ford, Jonathan Owens and Dallin Leavitt are solid backups best left for special teams. However, they’re thrust into competition for a starting job due to the lack of better alternatives.

That brings us to the seventh-round rookie, Anthony Johnson. His athleticism has stood out at times during training camp and preseason, but so have youthful mistakes. He probably won’t be ready to contribute this season, but could be a solid player down the road. Can he show enough promise to force the Packers to keep six safeties?
