Packers That Can Lock Up Roster Spots: Austin Allen

Austin Allen’s current position on the team can be attributed more to happenstance than anything else, yet sometimes being it’s better to be lucky than good.

Allen entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and signed with the Packers practice squad at the beginning of January 2023. Standing tall at an imposing 6-foot-8 and weighing in at 253 pounds, he brings a substantial physical presence to the field. Interestingly, Allen’s dimensions could align perfectly with the Packers’ quest for a specific tight end role: a proficient blocker. With the unfortunate sidelining of Tyler Davis for the season, a pressing need has arisen for a strong blocker to step up.

In this context, Allen seems poised to rise to the occasion. The Packers appear to hold a certain level of faith in his abilities, considering they haven’t brought in any new tight end signings since Davis’ injury. It’s improbable that the team would begin the season with only two tight ends in their ranks, indicating that Allen could be allowed to assert his capabilities and address the team’s needs in this crucial role.
