Updating Packers Position Battles After First Preseason Game
The Green Bay Packers are gaining more clarity about their roster as training camp rolls on and the first preseason game is in the books. While there’s still time for players to make an impact and secure their spots, the picture is starting to come into focus.
With two weeks left until they must cut the roster down to 53 players, including two joint practices with the New England Patriots and two more preseason games, the Packers are in the process of evaluating their players and making tough decisions.
One battle that has already been resolved is the backup quarterback position. The Packers used a fifth-round draft pick on Sean Clifford this year and released Danny Etling, his main competition for the role.
Here is an update on all the positional battles on the Green Bay Packers following their first preseason game.
Alex McGough is still in camp, but Clifford basically played the entire game after Jordan Love took the first two series. The rookie quarterback did throw two interceptions, including a pick-six, but also made plenty of good plays to justify what the team sees in him. It’s clear he’ll enter the season as Love’s backup.
Let’s check out a plethora of roster battles that are either close to being decided or are just getting started, beginning with the former.
