Has Christian Watson Learned To Catch The Ball?

Watson brought a mix of explosiveness and excitement to the Packers last season, although not always in the most favorable manner. His memorable season-opening drop against the Minnesota Vikings on what could have been a touchdown reception has already become the stuff of legends. Fortunately, he finished his rookie campaign on a much more positive note.

In terms of drop percentage, Watson ranked 10th among wide receivers who saw at least 200 passing snaps last year, according to PFF. It would be disheartening for both Love and the entire offense if a similar trend continued in 2023.

There’s no denying that Watson has the potential to be a game-changing player, with his imposing size and exceptional physical attributes that make him a threat to take the ball to the house on any given play. The Packers will undoubtedly devise ways to get the ball in his hands as frequently as possible. However, it ultimately falls upon Watson himself to prove that he can consistently secure the ball when targeted and help elevate the team’s offensive production.
