Packers’ 2023 player rankings 90-86: The longshots of longshots
The Green Bay Packers have a lot of work to do before they decide who makes their initial 53-man roster to kick-off the regular season. Allow us to provide some assistance.
Green Bay just wrapped up Organized Team Activities and minicamp and has 90 players on their roster. They’ll be able to carry 90 heading into Training Camp at the end of July and until August 29, when they need to get all the way down to 53.
In examining their roster and getting a better understanding of 1 through 90, I’ve ranked every single player from worst to first. Let’s start at the bottom and work our way up as the days progress.
Let’s kick off the 2023 rankings of the Green Bay Packers by looking at the bottom of their roster and ranking the bottom five players.
90. Broughton Hatcher, Long Snapper
Green Bay is in the market for a new snapper for the third consecutive year. Unfortunately for Broughton Hatcher, all signs point toward them moving in a different direction. He’s a 23-year-old rookie out of Old Dominion who snapped on punts, extra points and field goals. He has good size (6-foot-4 and 242 pounds) and did tie the school record for most tackles in a season by a long snapper with four.
89. Kenneth Odumegwu, Defensive Line
Kenneth Odumegwu has a fascinating story. He didn’t start playing football until 2022 and previously focused his efforts on soccer and then basketball (he’s never played in an organized football game). He hails from Nigeria and was discovered by Osi Umenyiora’s initiative, The Uprise (read more about his story here). As an international player, he’s guaranteed a roster spot through the end of training camp and could then be used as a practice squad exemption, allowing Green Bay to keep him as a 17th player on the squad.
88. DJ Scaife Jr, Offensive Tackle
DJ Scaife Jr. is already on his second team as an undrafted free agent this season. That could be a red flag. He originally signed with the Miami Dolphins, but was waived five days later, when Green Bay claimed him. He played extensively at the University of Miami, starting 52 total games and appearing in nine others. He has some positional versatility on the right side of the line.
87. William Hooper, Cornerback
William Hooper earned a tryout with the Packers following the draft and was subsequently signed by the squad. He played collegiate ball for FCS Northwestern State and showed the ability to both cover and be a sound tackler. However, the jump in the NFL will be challenging, to say the least.
86. Antonio Moultrie, Defensive Line
The Packers are undergoing an overhaul on the defensive line, and Antonio Moultrie will do everything he can to become a part of it. After playing for UAB for four years and finishing his collegiate career at Miami, he signed as an undrafted free agent. He was mostly a run defender and could be someone who eats up offensive linemen at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds.
