5 takeaways from Packers’ first open mandatory minicamp practice
Takeaways from Packers’ minicamp: Justin Hollins started at outside linebacker
Justin Hollins has apparently impressed the Packers’ coaching staff enough to earn a starting spot opposite Preston Smith during the team portion of minicamp. He only played in six games for the Packers last year, amassing 2.5 sacks, nine tackles (including three for loss) and four quarterback hits.
Hollins is a fifth-round pick from the 2019 NFL draft and has already played for three teams in his career. He was released by the Los Angeles Rams in November of 2022 and subsequently claimed by Green Bay.
His journey makes it even more impressive that the Packers are starting him alongside Smith, even at this juncture. Granted, Rashan Gary is still out and recovering from his torn ACL surgery. However, first-round pick Lukas Van Ness is around. Furthermore, JJ Enagbare played well down the stretch last season as well. Green Bay might have something with Hollins.
