The Green Bay Packers took the next step in their offseason workout program by kicking off a mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. It will be a three-day affair with practices open to the media on Tuesday and Wednesday and an apparent team-building activity on Thursday.

With the departure of Aaron Rodgers, it has been a relatively drama-free Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and minicamp for the Packers so far. They haven’t had any holdouts nor significant on-the-field injuries (knock on wood). Of course, it’s still early, but they are off to a great start.

There were a couple of notable players missing from OTAs, but nothing that raised too many eyebrows. Everybody returned in full for Tuesday’s minicamp, with a few exceptions. Let’s take a closer look at who wasn’t actively practicing.

The Green Bay Packers had perfect attendance at their first mandatory minicamp practice, but were still ten players missing from action.

Injured

  • Dallin Leavitt
  • Eric Stokes
  • Rashan Gary
  • Jake Hanson
  • Tyler Davis
  • Grant DuBose
  • Chris Slaton

This group was present at practice, but was on the sidelines or doing their rehab work. Stokes and Gary are the two biggest ones, as they are recovering from the most significant injuries and play the biggest roles among this group. There isn’t a timetable for either player yet, but it’s good to see them moving around.

It will be important for the other guys to return to the field as soon as possible. The good news is the team doesn’t resume activities until the end of July once this minicamp is completed. That will give them plenty of time to get their bodies right and come ready to participate in training camp.

Excused

  • Tarvarius Moore
  • Jonathan Garvin
  • Matt Orzech

Head coach Matt LaFleur mentioned it was “perfect attendance” for the team, meaning everyone who was supposed to be there was there. However, there were still three absences.

Tarvarius Moore, Jonathan Garvin, and Matt Orzech were all excused for personal reasons, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. We don’t know the exact reason for their absence, as it is, uh, personal, but it’s good to know they got approval to be elsewhere.

Moore figures to be in the competition for the starting safety spot alongside Darnell Savage. On Tuesday, Rudy Ford got the starting nod with Jonathan Owens playing safety no. 3. The Packers will also want to get Orzech back as soon as possible. They’ve had long-snapping woes recently and have a rookie kicker this year as well. Getting them as many reps as possible is essential.
