Packers with money on the line: Darnell Savage

Once upon a time, Darnell Savage was an ascending safety who looked promising as an anchor at the back of the Packers’ secondary.

He finished the 2020 season on a high note, teaming with Adrian Amos to finish the final eight games as one of the best safety tandems in the NFL. The duo carried their success over into the postseason, but could not replicate it in future years.

He finished 2020 with a PFF grade of 72.1, ranking 17th out of a qualified 94 safeties. It’s fallen to 57.3 (72nd of 92) and 47.5 (87 out of 88) in the two years since. He now enters 2023 in the final year of his rookie contract. If he’s not careful, he could be out of a job entirely by the end of the season and without an offer in 2024.
