X-factors on Packers: Jaire Alexander

It doesn’t get talked about much, but Jaire Alexander quietly had a down season in 2022. His 80.3 PFF grade still ranked eighth out of a qualified 118 cornerbacks, but it’s a far cry from his elite season in 2020.

His four-year, $84 million contract begins this season, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. Being a top-eight graded corner is great, but that’s not what the Packers broke the piggy bank for.

If Alexander can return to his 2020 form, the Packers’ defense will be significantly more dangerous. He can shadow the opposing team’s best receiver, shutting them down wherever he goes. This frees up Green Bay’s safeties to focus on other areas of the field and lessen their workload. Alexander could be a game-changer for a defense that needs to get back on track.
