The Green Bay Packers appear to be one of the NFL’s winners through the first two days of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, they have a lot more work to do.

They have nine selections on Day 3–the second-most of any team in the NFL. However, six of those picks come in the sixth or seventh round, leaving them with little overall draft capital. The other side of the coin is that they still have several positions they need to address on their roster.

With so many remaining holes (and nine picks!), I sorted their needs into three tiers:

  1. Tier 1: Need someone who can contribute in Year 1
  2. Tier 2: Need depth at the position
  3. Tier 3: Need long-term reinforcements

The Green Bay Packers have nine selections to fill several holes on their roster on Day 3. Here are their needs split into tiers.

Tier 1: Wide receiver, defensive line, kicker

Despite taking wide receiver Jayden Reed in Round 2, Green Bay will still need someone who can step on the field in their rookie year. A three-man depth chart of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Reed is a good start, but the Packers need another player who can catch the rock in 2023.

First-round pick Lukas Van Ness will help some on the defensive line and they’ll count more on Devonte Wyatt and TJ Slaton, but they still need another rotational player up front.

As for kicker, it doesn’t look like Mason Crosby is coming back. Don’t be surprised to see Green Bay use a draft pick on the position.

Tier 2: Quarterback, safety

The Packers have their starting quarterback in Jordan Love, but need another quality option if he goes down with an injury. The year the Packers transitioned to Aaron Rodgers, they selected two quarterbacks.

They have plenty of depth at safety, but no proven starters. They’ve definitely taken the quantity over quality approach. Green Bay could still add more depth and a potential long-term starter.

Tier 3: Offensive line, cornerback, running back

General manager Brian Gutekunst loves to select offensive linemen, and could continue to add depth, particularly at offensive tackle. They also need a third running back and depth at the cornerback position. They could take some flyers in the latter rounds at all three of these positions.
