The Green Bay Packers used their first-round selection on outside linebacker Lukas Van Ness at 13th overall. Van Ness has a high ceiling and could turn into a stud down the road. Fortunately, the Packers will have a good chance of selecting another terrific player in the second round.

They still have a plethora of needs left to address. At the top of their list includes wide receiver, tight end, and safety. The offensive and defensive lines also need addressing.

Heading into Day 2, plenty of talented players remain in the draft. Green Bay will get two early selections at 42 and 45, barring any trades. Let’s check out some terrific prospects they could land in the second round.

The Green Bay Packers are fortunate there are plenty of terrific prospects remaining heading into Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Brian Branch, safety, Alabama

This is a bit of a surprise, as Branch is far and away the best safety in this draft. He can line up all over the field, including specializing in the slot. The Packers have two major needs at safety, but have addressed them with a plethora of below-average players.

Tight ends: Sam LaPorta, Michael Mayer, Luke Musgrave, Darnell Washington, Tucker Kraft

It’s highly likely the Packers take a tight end with one of their two second-round picks. The good news is there are plenty of good player heading into Day 2. Mayer is another surprise–he’s the most complete tight end in this draft class. If Green Bay gets one off this list, they’ll be happy campers.

Wide receivers: Jalin Hyatt, Josh Downs, Tyler Scott

All three potential wide receivers are undersized, with Hyatt the biggest at a whopping 6-foot and 176 pounds. That means they will be subject to life in the slot in the NFL. We’ll see if Green Bay targets any of them after passing up on all the wide receivers in Round 1.

Offensive linemen: O’Cyrus Torrence (guard), Steve Avila (interior line), Joe Tippmann (center), Cody Mauch (guard), Matthew Bergeron (tackle)

The Packers will likely target the offensive line at some point in the draft, but the second round might not be the place. The only potential offensive tackle is Bergeron, and that’s the biggest area of need for Green Bay up front.

Packers draft Lukas Van Ness: The good, bad and grade. dark. Next

Other positions: Joey Porter Jr (cornerback), BJ Ojulari (edge), Kelee Ringo (cornerback), DJ Turner (cornerback), Keion White (edge), Gervon Dexter Sr (DL), Keeanu Benton (DL)

Porter Jr is another major surprise. He was projected as one of the top cornerbacks, but fell on Day 1. Green Bay doesn’t need another corner, but Porter Jr. may be too good to pass up. It’s unlikely they’ll select another outside linebacker, leaving Dexter Sr. and Benton and the two most likely prospects from this bunch. Green Bay needs more depth inside, even with the selection of Van Ness.
