Packers draft Tucker Kraft 78th: The good, bad, and grade
The Green Bay Packers continue adding talent, this time with the 78th selection Tucker Kraft in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Kraft is the second tight end Green Bay picked in the draft, following their second-round pick Luke Musgrave at 42 overall. He addresses a gigantic gap at the position, and one that may have needed several picks.
Here is a review of their draft picks so far:
The Green Bay Packers used the 78th overall draft to pick tight end Tucker Kraft in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Good
Kraft has a good size and athletic combination. His speed will allow him to outrun linebackers deep and become yet another vertical threat in this Green Bay offense. He also has great hands to complement his athletic traits.
Kraft is someone who can be used in the short-passing game as well. He can make bigger defenders miss and run through smaller ones. He loves to compete and won’t take crap from anyone.
The Bad
The worst part about this selection is it is a third-round pick. Green Bay has been awful in this round for the past 20-some years, and the curse is real. To be fair, this has nothing to do with the selection, but it is what it is.
Route running is one of his biggest weaknesses. He has a lot of work to do in this department. Blocking will be another question mark. Can he hold his own in either the running or passing games? Only time will tell.
The Grade
He has all the potential to become a legitimate contributor in the NFL. His athleticism should allow him to turn into a tight end that can contribute in the passing game. There are sevel question marks about his blocking ability.
Green Bay used two of their top four picks on tight ends. We’ll see how that plays out for them. Although they have a need at the position and this was a strong tight end draft class, it’s still curious to see them use two picks at the position.
Grade: B-
