It has been an eventful second round of the 2023 NFL Draft for the Green Bay Packers, and they’ve finally drafted, selecting Jayden Reed, a wide receiver out of Michigan State with the 50th overall pick.

Green Bay originally held the 42nd and 45th overall selections. After standing pat at 42 and taking tight end Luke Musgrave, they traded back not once, but twice to go from 45 to 48 to 50. In the end, they took another pass-catcher for quarterback Jordan Love.

Here is a review of their draft picks so far:

And, now, let’s dive into the good, the bad, and the grade for their 50th overall selection.

The Green Bay Packers used the 50th overall draft to pick wide receiver Jayden Reed in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Good

Green Bay has been tremendous in drafting wide receivers in the second round. They have a rich history of adding great players on Day 2, most recently with Christian Watson. They certainly hope Reed follows the same path.

The Packers also added an additional fifth and sixth-rounder in the process, thanks to two trade downs. They likely won’t keep all of these Day 3 picks, so be prepared for them to trade up in the third round.

Getting to Reed, he has the potential to become a playmaker with the ball in his hands in the NFL. He has great quickness and can stop and go in a hurry. He can also make tough, contested catches. Lastly, he’s another option as a returner.

The Bad

His size is a big question mark. He’s extremely slender and is vulnerable to be bullied at the point of attack. Getting off the line of scrimmage may be an issue for him in the NFL.

He struggled with easy receptions last year and is another drop-prone receiver on Green Bay’s roster. He also had some injuries that cost him games and is worth monitoring moving forward.

The Grade

Reed is a wide receiver who is ready to contribute from Day 1. He should immediately assume the starting slot receiver in Green Bay’s offense and give them three good, young receivers they can rely on.

Green Bay was able to move back twice, acquiring two additional picks in the process. That has to factor into this selection. In the end, they got Love some much-needed help once again. What’s not to love? No pun intended.
