The Green Bay Packers addressed a significant need on Day 1, Round 1 of the NFL Draft by selecting outside linebacker Lukas Van Ness. Now, they must get back to work.

There are plenty of talented players remaining heading into Day 2, giving the Packers a terrific chance to grab a good player at a position of need. Some of those needs include wide receiver, tight end, safety and even the offensive and defensive lines.

Now that we know how the first round played out, let’s mock the second and third rounds on Day 2 to see how Green Bay projects to fare.

Here is a mock draft of Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft, with the Green Bay Packers making their selections in Rounds two and three.

Round 2, Pick 42: Jalin Hyatt, wide receiver, Tennessee

The Packers passed up on Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round, but won’t pass up on another wide receiver in the second. Green Bay desperately needs more talent at this position and Hyatt gives them another burner. He can stretch the field horizontally or vertically, allowing head coach Matt LaFleur to utilize him in several ways. His size (6 feet, 176 pounds) is one of his biggest weaknesses.

Round 2, Pick 45: Darnell Washington, tight end, Georgia

Plenty of good tight ends are still available heading into Day 2, including Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer. Mayer is unlikely to continue falling to 42 or 45, however. That leaves Green Bay with Georgia’s Darnell Washington, an athletic freak with a massive body to match. Washington has work to do to improve his game, but he can contribute as a blocker and a receiver. The sky is the limit with his potential.

Round 3, Pick 78: Tyler Steen, offensive tackle, Alabama

General manager Brian Gutekunst loves to draft offensive linemen in the middle rounds, and he continues that trend in the third. Although safety Antonio Johnson was available, Gutekunst prioritized Tyler Steen.

Steen transferred to Alabama and started at left tackle last year. He will have some positional versatility in the NFL, a trait Green Bay really likes. He’ll need a year or two to perfect his craft and that’s exactly what the Packers can offer him.
