New trade ideas for Packers to send Aaron Rodgers to Jets
The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets are stuck regarding an Aaron Rodgers’ trade.
The two sides appear to be in a stalemate, as the rumored deal hasn’t been completed. There are a lot of factors at play, including the Jets traveling to Rodgers’ home, Rodgers publicly discussing he was 90 percent retired going into his retreat, Green Bay’s asking price, and the lack of any other quarterback available to New York.
These factors all contribute to the current situation, and we’ll see if it gets resolved before the 2023 NFL Draft. With the recent news about the Packers’ asking price being a 2023 second and a 2023 first-rounder, here are three new trade ideas to make the deal happen.
The Green Bay Packers need to inject some new life into potential Aaron Rodgers’ trade conversations with the New York Jets.
The Packers bend slightly in their reported asking price of a 2023 second-rounder and an unconditional 2024 first-round pick. In this deal, New York sends the worse of their two second-round selections and a second-round pick in next year’s draft. They get to keep both first-round picks and the Packers don’t give a pick back in the event Rodgers retires after the 2023 season.
The Jets send both second-round picks this year in an attempt to keep their 2023 and 2024 first-round picks. This would give Green Bay four selections in the top 45 picks of this year’s draft and allow them to jumpstart their rebuild around Jordan Love without waiting until 2024 to recoup another draft pick. In this scenario, Green Bay sends a mid-round pick to the Jets if Rodgers retires after just one year.
Alright, this trade proposal is starting to get a little funky. The Jets want to keep their 13th overall pick in this year’s draft, but the Packers drop to a third-round pick with their second draft compensation. New York would still have both second-round picks in this year’s draft to add to their roster around Rodgers. Again, Green Bay would send them a mid-to-late round selection in 2025 if Rodgers’ retires after 2023.
