4 young Packers in line for bigger roles next season
The Green Bay Packers are in the process of a massive overhaul of their roster. They’re letting droves of veterans move on while shifting their attention to younger players.
Green Bay has always seen itself as a draft and develop team. However, in recent seasons, they’ve relied heavily on veterans to carry them to postseason contention. That is changing with Adrian Amos, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Aaron Rodgers, and others departures.
Now, the Packers will let young, unproven players on their roster have a shot to make a name for themselves. Here are four young players in line for more significant roles next season.
These four young players on the Green Bay Packers are in-line for significant increases in their roles when next season comes around.
Packers in line for bigger roles: Samori Toure
Somehow, Samori Toure is the third-most proven wide receiver on Green Bay’s depth chart, behind Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. He caught five receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown in his rookie year, but his stats will have a chance to skyrocket in year two. The Packers will almost assuredly add to their receiver room via the draft, so it will look different than it does now. However, the 2022 seventh-rounder showed some flashes of potential in an injury-shortened rookie campaign.
Packers in line for bigger roles: Tariq Carpenter
The Packers have an even bigger mess at safety than they do at wide receiver, and Tariq Carpenter’s opportunity will have more to do with the lack of depth than anything else. Darnell Savage is expected to be the starter at one spot, with the other one wide open. Rasul Douglas could be moved to the backend of the secondary. The other options are Rudy Ford, Tarvarius Moore and Carpenter.
Packers in line for bigger roles: TJ Slaton
The Packers allowed Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed to sign elsewhere in free agency, opening up playing time for 2022 first-rounder Devonte Wyatt and TJ Slaton. Slaton is entering his third year in the NFL, but has had limited opportunities so far. That should change in 2023, as he’ll have a chance to be third on the depth chart and earn a regular role in the defensive line rotation.
Packers in line for bigger roles: Jordan Love
This is an obvious one, as Green Bay is transitioning their entire franchise to Love. He showed flashes in his only real action last year and has impressed coaches and teammates in practices. He’ll be the Day 1 starter and will have an opportunity to put his stamp on the NFL.
