The Green Bay Packers need to add more weapons for quarterback Jordan Love to succeed in his first year as a starter. The only question is: how?

They lack the financial resources to sign a player of any quality. Green Bay is so tight against the cap, they can hardly afford to re-sign their own free agents, nonetheless, sign an outsider. Luckily, a perfect trade package would allow them to move down from their 15th overall pick while adding more assets to their cupboard.

Depending on what happens with an Aaron Rodgers and New York Jets trade, Green Bay holds the 15th overall selection in this year’s draft to go along with the 45th and 78th selections as well. Fortunately, the Seattle Seahawks would be a perfect trade partner allowing the Packers to keep a top 20 selection while adding another top 90 pick.

The Green Bay Packers have a tailor-made trade proposal that would include them trading down in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks are lush with picks this year and could offer Green Bay plenty of opportunities to add to their draft stock. The Packers should offer their 15th overall selection to Seattle for their 20th and 84th picks. According to draft pick trade value charts, that puts the deal at 1050 points given away for Green Bay, with 1020 returning.

If they receive one of New York’s picks in the top 43, that would suddenly give the Packers five of the top 84 picks in this year’s draft.

Considering how many holes Green Bay has, those top picks are much needed. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are the only “proven” wide receivers on the depth chart. Tight end has Josiah Deguara as the leading man. Giving Love a bare cupboard of skill players to work with is setting him up for failure.

It’s not a sure thing any rookie would be ready to contribute right away, but it’s much better than what they have right now. Holding the 20th overall pick would still give them a great chance to draft Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Green Bay could also turn around with their second-round pick and get one of Darnell Washington, Michael Mayer, or Sam LaPorta at tight end. Suddenly, they have a lot better depth, and three top 84 picks still remaining.

Next. Packers desperately need to add more weapons for Love. dark

The Packers are building for the future, that much is clear. But that doesn’t mean they should punt on the present. Love must build his confidence to prove he belongs as an NFL starter. Handing him a bunch of scrubs at the skill positions will only make that more difficult. Trading back in the first round and recouping more assets would be a great way to begin adding talent around him.
