Packers: 3 free agent tight ends still available to replace Robert Tonyan
The Green Bay Packers will need to figure out a short and long-term plan at tight end after losing Robert Tonyan to the Chicago Bears in free agency. It’s probably only a matter of time until Marcedes Lewis joins him by signing with another team.
That leaves Green Bay with only Josiah Deguara and Tyler Davis on the roster. The Packers will have to address the position somehow, and will likely double-team it in free agency and the draft. There are several tight end candidates who should be available with the Packers’ first or second-round selections.
If they go that route, these three tight ends would be a good fit in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers lost Robert Tonyan in free agency and could look to any of these three free agent tight ends to replace him.
Free agent tight ends still available for Packers: Irv Smith Jr.
It’s usually Green Bay players who go to other teams in the division, but the roles are reversed this time. The Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson during the season and signed Josh Oliver in free agency, signaling Smith Jr.’s tenure with them is probably over.
Smith Jr. has struggled with injuries during his career, but could be a contributor if he’s healthy. He has the potential to be a good receiving threat from the position, something the Packers need to add more of to their 2023 roster.
