Priority Free Agents for Packers: Irv Smith Jr., Tight End

It’s usually the Minnesota Vikings signing ex-Packers and filling their roster (and coaching staff) with talent from their division rival. Green Bay should take a page out of Minnesota’s book this time.

The Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson last year and have significant salary cap issues of their own to contend with. That should allow Irv Smith Jr. to find a new home as an unrestricted free agent.

He’s battled injuries throughout his career, but has flashed the ability to become an above-average tight end in the NFL. He can be an explosive pass-catcher with YAC potential. His price tag should also be very moderate, considering he’s struggled to stay on the field. This would be a great buy-low candidate.
