The Green Bay Packers and the rest of the NFL can legally begin tampering with free agents on Monday, March 13th, beginning discussions and contract negotiations with them at that time. The two sides can even agree to a deal, but nothing can become official until Wednesday, March 15th.

The Packers still need to figure out their Aaron Rodgers’ situation, as that will have at least a $9 million impact on their 2023 salary cap if he gets traded. Green Bay technically has cap space at the moment, but most of that money will be needed for signing draft picks and any in-season movement.

Green Bay likely still has a few moves to make to cut more money off their cap to create additional space. That will help them target one of these free agents, who should be a priority for them this season (obviously, they can’t sign all of these players, but, hopefully, one).

The Green Bay Packers will have to prioritize any free agent targets they pursue this offseason and these five should be at the top of the list.

Priority Free Agents for Packers: Juan Thornhill, Safety

Green Bay’s safety position is a mess (more on that later), and they will need an injection of fresh talent. In a passing league, why not target a coverage safety? Thornhill’s strengths lie in his ability to defend the pass and he played his best during the Chiefs’ run to the Super Bowl. He’s not a spectacular player, but would immediately start for the safety-challenged Packers.
