If we are reading the tea leaves regarding Aaron Rodgers’ future with the Green Bay Packers, it looks like he will be traded to the New York Jets this offseason.

To be clear, nothing is even close to official. Rodgers has yet to share his intentions for the 2023 season and whether he’ll even return to the football field. He’s debated retirement and hasn’t shared his plan with the Packers.

That’s the first domino that needs to fall. If Rodgers does return for his 19th NFL season, the ball will be in Green Bay’s court. Will they keep him and place him back atop the quarterback depth chart? Or will they trade him and implement Jordan Love as the starter? All signs point toward the Packers trading Rodgers to the Jets if he returns.

The reports continue to pile in and all signs are pointing toward the Green Bay Packers trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.

Derek Carr previously met with the Jets and New York could’ve signed him if they so desired. Instead, Carr signed a massive deal with the New Orleans Saints, making it Rodgers or bust if the Jets want to upgrade their quarterback position next season.

Reports have also trickled in over the last month that describes the Packers as disappointed in Rodgers’ play and approach last season. Michael Silver used words such as “exhausting,” “high-maintenance,” and “low-commitment leadership” to describe Green Bay’s feelings about the four-time MVP.

NFL Network’s Rich Eisen reported Green Bay doesn’t even want Rodgers back. He shared they “sure hope” Rodgers either retires or wants to play elsewhere if he returns. Why the Packers don’t take that hard stance is another issue altogether.

Most recently, Trey Wingo reported that Rodgers and the Jets had a discussion about his future, which almost certainly wouldn’t happen without the Packers’ approval.

Free Agency begins next week and Green Bay really wants a resolution before then. Their salary cap could look significantly different with or without Rodgers on the team. Early in the offseason, Rodgers said his decision would come quickly. Hopefully, he’s true to his word.

All the signs are pointing toward the Packers and Rodgers ending their relationship in the same way the Packers and Brett Favre did: With a trade to the Jets. Anything could happen, but sometimes the tea leaves are right.
