The Green Bay Packers are in salary cap H-E-Double Hockey Sticks.

They’ve created an annual tradition of having to cut money off the cap by pushing it further down the road or parting ways with talented players. That’s not an annual tradition I want to be a part of, nor one that will set them up for long-term success.

Part of the issue is their massive cap hits at the top of their roster. Three players–Aaron Rodgers, David Bakhtiari and Kenny Clark–account for over a third of their salary cap space in 2023. Using cap hits, here are four overpaid players heading into the 2023 season.

With the Green Bay Packers struggling with their salary cap health, we turn our attention to these four players who are overpaid.

Overpaid Packers: Darnell Savage Jr.

Savage has fallen from the good graces of Packers’ fans thanks to his horrendous play last season. He was once a promising player, but now most fans can’t get rid of him soon enough. He struggled in coverage, tackling, and every aspect of playing safety. Some bloggers have wondered if Green Bay could attach him to a potential Rodgers’ trade just to get rid of him. For now, they’ll have to deal with his $7.9 million cap hit–eighth-highest on the team.
