Young free agents Packers should pursue: Irv Smith Jr., Tight End

Like the defensive line, the Packers have two key veterans entering unrestricted free agency at tight end: Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis. It’s unclear if either one will return.

If they move on, Green Bay could look to a youth movement at the position. Irv Smith Jr. has battled injuries throughout his career, but could be a buy-low candidate with a fairly high ceiling. He’s a dynamic pass-catcher with good hands and can stretch the field.

The Minnesota Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson last season and could be okay moving on from Smith. Tight ends usually take a few years to develop and Green Bay could roll the dice on Smith and his development if he can finally stay healthy.
