The Green Bay Packers will pay Adrian Amos one way or another in 2023. The question is: Will they be paying him to play for their team or a different one?

In order to save salary cap space, the Packers added a void year to Amos’ contract, meaning he’ll count for $7.95 million against their cap this year. If Green Bay wants to re-sign him, they’ll add to that number, but they’ll pay at least that much regardless.

Amos’ play fell off a cliff last year, as his 53.4 PFF grade was the lowest of his career, and he ranked 81st among 88 qualified safeties. He was two steps slower and consistently out of position as a result. He also missed several tackles we’ve seen him make throughout his entire career.

It would be reasonable for Green Bay to move on from him and look for better options to fill the void at safety. Here are three potential candidates.

Green Bay will unlikely find a long-term replacement in free agency without paying an arm and a leg. Even if they had that much money to spend, I’d be hesitant.

Harmon is a short-term stopgap that should be cheap and provide quality play at the position. He’s coming off one of the best seasons of his career with the Raiders. He can play up near the line of scrimmage and provide quality run support. He also has a nose for the ball and will make the occasional play on the ball. He’d be a nice locker room guy as well.
