The Green Bay Packers already have a plan to shape their 2023 roster and we’ll see how it plays out throughout the offseason. It could include several first-year Packers moving on to new destinations.

Green Bay has begun clearing cap space by reworking Aaron Jones’ contract. They’ll continue renegotiating with veterans to lower their 2023 cap hits while kicking more money. There could even be a few surprise cut candidates in the mix.

The new league year begins on March 15th and the Packers will officially be able to sign free agents at that point. The draft will follow a couple of months later and the 2023 version of the Packers will begin to take shape.

In the meantime, they’ll have to make some tough choices, including moving on from first-year Packers.

There’s significant roster change every season and these three first-year players on the Green Bay Packers could be gone in 2023.

Dallin Leavitt

The Packers brought in Leavitt to help them with their special teams issues. That was all he was useful for. He played two defensive snaps all season while playing on the primary coverage and return units. Green Bay also brought in Rudy Ford and Eric Wilson to help with special teams, both players providing more value than Leavitt.

The Packers will likely turn their attention to a safety who can make an impact on defense, considering their need has grown since last year. Leavitt doesn’t fit the bill and the Packers could look for a special teams player elsewhere on their roster.

Sean Rhyan

The Packers’ third-round curse is awful. If you thought the Amari Rodgers selection was poor, Sean Rhyan has a very real chance to be cut in just his second year. Rhyan flew under the radar and avoided criticism in his rookie year due to the emergence of Zach Tom. However, Rhyan didn’t play a single offensive snap despite being healthy all year and only one on an extra point. Yuck.

Jarran Reed

Green Bay brought Reed in as a free agent last season to help bolster their defensive line. Both he and Dean Lowry are unrestricted free agents and are likely gone. That has less to do with Reed’s play, which was serviceable, and more to do with the upcoming players on the defensive line. Devonte Wyatt and TJ Slaton deserve more playing time and will likely receive it in 2023.
