Free agents Packers should avoid: Rodney McLeod, Safety

Safety is another position of need for Green Bay. Adrian Amos is an unrestricted free agent and Darnell Savage is entering the final year of his contract. Neither player lived up to their expectations in 2022 and wouldn’t inspire confidence even if they return.

That likely has Green Bay turning its attention to free agency to see how it can improve. There are plenty of safeties who should be available, but the Packers should avoid signing McLeod.

McLeod will be 33 years old before the season begins and has his best football behind him despite coming off one of his career-best years. He’s undersized for the position, which concerns his long-term ability to impact the game as he begins losing some athleticism. The Packers may very well need a stopgap at safety, but can find a better one elsewhere.
