The Milwaukee Brewers are almost back! They kicked off big league camp on Thursday and welcomed the rest of the Major Leaguers to Spring Training.

With their first game just one week away, Milwaukee has a lot of work to do. Several positions are up in the air and will be determined based, in part, on play during the next month. Third base and second base are the two most tightly contested spots, with all eyes on the Brewers’ outfield prospects as well.

A lot could change, but here is a projection of their Opening Day batting order as Spring Training begins.

A few positions are yet to be determined, but here is a projection of the Milwaukee Brewers’ batting order as Spring Training begins.

1. Christian Yelich

2. Willy Adames

3. William Contreras

4. Rowdy Tellez

5. Jesse Winker

6. Luis Urias

7. Tyrone Taylor

8. Garrett Mitchell

9. Brice Turang

Yelich held the leadoff spot last season and will probably end up there again by default. Milwaukee doesn’t have a natural hitter for that top spot, otherwise, Yelich would be best placed elsewhere in the order. He does well enough, even if he isn’t anything close to his former MVP self.

The middle of the order could be moved around depending on who is hot and what the pitching matchup for the game is. Contreras, Tellez and Winker could make up any of the 3-4-5 spots, with Tellez most likely holding down the clean-up position. It will be fun to see him bookended by two better hitters than a season ago.

The bottom third of the lineup has long-term potential, but might take some lumps early on. This group could also change as Milwauee’s plethora of prospects gets primed to impact the Big League club. Urias is the starter at third base here, but will be in a tight competition with free agent signee Brian Anderson. He could also slide over to second base and compete with Turang for the starting spot.

Several interesting battles will take place this Spring, so keep your eye on the Brewers.
