Defensive free agents Packers should re-sign: Rudy Ford

Ford could’ve gone into the special teams category, but we’ll call him a true safety for this article. He stepped in and started for Darnell Savage following a couple of terrible games from the former first-round pick.

Ford held his own as the starter, even excelling against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12. However, he quickly reverted to his old ways–charging in way too fast and out of control, struggling to stick with receivers in coverage, and missing way too many tackles. In other words, he fit right in with the Packers’ other safeties.

Green Bay’s offseason probably didn’t go as planned if Ford is a starting safety in Week 1. However, he is a decent depth player and also a great special teams guy. For the latter especially, the Packers should bring him back.
