Packers 3-round mock 2023 Draft: Aaron Rodgers trade nets top-5 pick
The Green Bay Packers have plenty of options with the 2023 NFL Draft. One of those options is to trade Aaron Rodgers for picks.
The New York Jets are reportedly interested in the four-time MVP, but Green Bay will try to drive the interest of other teams including the Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, and potentially even the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts have made plenty of trades for quarterbacks in previous years so it stands to reason they could be in the market for another upgrade. Rodgers would clearly be better than Phillip Rivers or Matt Ryan, two guys they recently acquired.
I do just that in this three-round mock draft by trading Rodgers to the Colts, grabbing a top-five pick, and re-stocking Green Bay’s talent cupboards. Without further ado, let’s dive in.
The Green Bay Packers trade Aaron Rodgers for a top-five pick, jump-starting the rebuild, in this three-round 2023 NFL mock draft.
Due to the high nature of the Colts’ pick, Green Bay doesn’t net any further draft selections in return. The Packers could do a lot with this pick, including trading back to gain even more draft capital, packaging it with the 15th selection to move up, or staying put. I chose the latter.
Round 1, Pick 4: Tyree Wilson, Edge, Texas Tech
The Packers grab the best player on their big board, Tyree Wilson out of Texas Tech. Wilson has great height and athleticism, able to explode off the line of scrimmage and give offensive tackles immediate fits. He uses his long arms to create and maintain separation with would-be blockers and get after the quarterback. They’re also a weapon in defending the run.
Round 1, Pick 15: Jordan Addison, Wide Receiver, USC
The Packers finally draft a first-round wide receiver when Rodgers leaves. Addison was on the board along with Zay Flowers and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but Addison is the pick. He can line up all over the field and has advanced route-running skills. He also has great hands, a nice addition to the Packers’ current wide receiver corps.
Round 2, Pick 45: Darnell Washington, Tight End, Georgia
Green Bay continues to check off needs, as they draft Georgia tight end Darnell Washington in the second round. Washington is a freak in the weight room and uses that strength to block on the line of scrimmage, providing an immediate replacement for Marcedes Lewis. He can get going when given a runway and is surprisingly quick for a man his size.
Round 3, Pick 78: Jordan Battle, Safety, Alabama
There are plenty of questions at the safety position this offseason. Adrian Amos is a free agent and Darnell Savage played so poorly in 2022, the Packers might try to move on. Therefore, Green Bay adds a potential starter with their third-round pick.
