2 options for Packers to save another $15.8 million in cap space

Trade Aaron Rodgers post-June 1 or mark his retirement as Post-June 1

It’s increasingly looking like the Packers will move on without Rodgers at the helm in 2023. Reports continue to surface about Green Bay and Rodgers being open to a trade, something that didn’t exist in years past.

Whether he’s traded or retires, the timing of any move will be key. If it happens before June 1, Green Bay will add additional money to their 2023 cap, but be free of it in the future. If it happens after June 1 (or they mark it a post-June 1st retirement), it will free up cap space this year, but add money in 2024. For this exercise, we’ll save money in the immediate future.

Next. Packers should call 49ers to propose Rodgers' trade. dark

All these moves would give Green Bay $29.5 million to work with in free agency and build the team around Jordan Love.
