2 restructures Packers can make to create $13.7 million in cap space:

Restructure Preston Smith (save $6.2 million), and David Bakhtiari (save $7.5 million)

Smith is a nice complimentary edge rusher. He can’t do the heavy lifting on his own, but can feed off less attention when he has an elite rusher on the other side. We’ve seen him thrive with Rashan Gary and Za’Darius Smith opposite him, and struggle when neither of those two are out there. He’s a solid player, but it’s critical to reduce his 2023 cap hit.

Bakhtiari played well when he was able to get on the field last season. However, sometimes availability is the best ability. There’s no telling how Bakhtiari’s knee will hold up moving forward, and Green Bay should reduce some of that risk by reducing his cap hit.

These two moves will create $13.7 million in cap space, paving the way for one more move.
