Reasons Packers should trade Aaron Rodgers: Future salary cap relief
The bill is going to come due at some point. There’s no getting around it at this point, no matter what Green Bay does–they already paid him the money and now have to account for it on the cap.
However, they can “minimize” the hit and get it out of the way sooner rather than later. If he’s traded before June 1, Green Bay will endure a $40.31 million cap hit in 2023, up from about $30 million if he were to play for the team next season.
That number rises every year he plays for Green Bay and either decides to retire or is traded. It’s the lowest it will ever be so might as well make the move now.
