The Green Bay Packers have a major decision to make at running back this offseason: Whether to keep Aaron Jones. They could target one in the draft if they decide to move on from him.

Jones has been dynamic for the Packers, and there is no question they’d be worse off without him. He battled through injury this year, but was still one of the most explosive playmakers the team has.

A.J. Dillon took a step back in his third year, averaging fewer yards per rush, total rushing yards and receiving yards. He’s a big bruising back who didn’t show off the spryness we saw from him in Year 2. He’ll be a free agent after the 2023 season.

Green Bay will likely draft a running back at some point in 2023, even if it’s not with their top picks. However, if they want a difference-maker, here are the top five running backs in the 2023 NFL Draft.

With an important 2023 NFL Draft on the horizon for the Green Bay Packers, here are the top five running backs who will be available.

Bijan Robinson, Texas

Robinson is the best running back in this class and it’s not particularly close. He’s a big body at 6-foot and 220 pounds with a great combination of quickness and speed. He’s a load to bring down and broke a PFF-record 104 tackles last year. Overall, he ran for 1580 yards and 18 touchdowns while also adding 314 yards and two touchdowns through the air in 2020.

Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama

It gets a lot murkier after Robinson and different analysts have different running backs ranked all over the board. Gibbs is a bit undersized for the position, but makes up for it with a high football I.Q. He can read defenses and running lanes, and find the correct hole to hit.

Zach Charbonnet, UCLA

Charbonnet spent his first two collegiate years at Michigan before transferring to UCLA in 2021. And what a great decision it was. In two years at UCLA, he ran for 2496 yards and 27 touchdowns while adding another 518 receiving yards.

Devon Achane, Texas A&M

Achane succeeded despite facing a ton of defensive attention due to the lack of other offensive playmakers on the team. He ran for 1102 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022. His speed and vision are the strengths of his game, and make him a potential second-round pick. There are questions about whether he’ll hold up in the NFL due to his lean body.

Sean Tucker, Syracuse

Tucker didn’t have quite the junior season he was hoping for, but is still declaring for the draft a year early. In 2021, he ran for 1496 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He only put up 1060 yards, 11 touchdowns and a 5.1 yards per carry average in 2022.
