Packers’ 4 possible playoff opponents in Wild Card round
The Green Bay Packers still have a lot of work to make the playoffs, but it doesn’t hurt if I take a peek behind the curtain about possible Wild Card playoff opponents.
Obviously, the Packers need to take care of business first. They host the Detroit Lions in the final regular season game of the NFL season on Sunday Night Football. The terms of their engagement are simple: They win and they’re in. Any other scenario and they’re out.
While they are focusing on what lies directly in front of them, let’s get ahead of ourselves and start identifying potential playoff opponents. Here are four teams they could play in the Wild Card round.
The Green Bay Packers can face one of four teams if they make the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Minnesota Vikings
This might be the best-case scenario for Green Bay. They just whooped the Vikings at Lambeau Field and would enter this game with a ton of confidence (the flip side of the coin is that the Vikings will have revenge on their mind). Minnesota is objectively the weakest of the four teams the Packers could face if they make the playoffs.
Dallas Cowboys
The Packers also beat the Cowboys earlier in the season thanks to a field goal in overtime. Unfortunately, that’s an all too familiar result for Dallas fans. The Cowboys are legitimate and would be favored by a significant number of points if these two teams faced each other. They have a lot on the line in Week 18, as they could win the NFC East and earn the top seed if the Eagles and 49ers lose.
Philadelphia Eagles
At 13-3, the Eagles currently have the NFC’s best record. However, that could change with a loss and wins by the Cowboys and/or 49ers. It would be a disappointing end to their season if they fall from the top spot and have to play in the Wild Card round instead of resting at home. They beat the Packers earlier in the season as Jalen Hurts ran all over the defense.
San Francisco 49ers
This might be the worst-case scenario for the Packers. The 49ers have won nine straight games and are the hottest team in the NFL. Despite starting Brock Hurdy at quarterback, they surround him with offensive weapons at every position. They also have a dominant defense that would give Green Bay a lot of trouble. This is an all too familiar playoff opponent for Green Bay.
