The Green Bay Packers have a high hill to climb if they want any chance of making the postseason.

After starting 3-1, all felt right with the world. Green bay wasn’t perfect, but they were finding ways to win games with young, inexperienced players at key positions. The theory was that if they could continue racking up Ws, their young guys would learn and grow in time for another long postseason run.

Unfortunately, they fell apart and went 2-7 over their next nine games after that hot start, falling to 5-8. The Packers didn’t have a bye until Week 14 to help them catch their breath and they continued losing games to teams they should have beaten. That brought us to their Monday night showdown against the Los Angeles Rams.

Here are the Green Bay Packers most up to date playoff odds following their victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.

Okay, so it was less of a showdown and more of a contest between two underwhelming teams who began the season with Super Bowl aspirations.

According to FiveThirtyEight, the Packers began the week with a six percent chance to make the postseason. They needed to win out and get a lot of help along the way.

They received some help on Thursday night when the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks. Green Bay didn’t receive much help the rest of the weekend, but did help their own cause with a victory over the Rams. With remaining games against the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, Monday night’s contest was the easiest game remaining.

The victory bumped their playoff odds to a whopping eight percent–a two percent increase from the beginning of the week. That’s how they’re going to claw their way back into this thing–just a couple of percentage points at a time.

Before looking at the scoreboards across the NFL, Green Bay needs to focus on themselves. Nothing else matters if they can’t win. They’re coming off a short week now, and Miami has an extra two days to prepare for the Packers (thanks, NFL). One game at a time.
