Packers trade rumor: Several talks, but nothing brewing
The Green Bay Packers have had several trade talks regarding acquiring a wide receiver, but nothing serious at this time according to a report from Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo at NFL.com.
The trio dropped an article on Sunday morning that included all their latest intel about the upcoming NFL trade deadline (Tuesday, November 1st at 3 pm CT). It included teams like the Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, New England Patriots and others. Some of the players included were Brandin Cooks, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, Kendrick Bourne, and Chase Claypool.
Unsurprisingly, nothing imminent involving the Packers.
The Green Bay Packers have reportedly had several talks regarding trading for a wide receiver, but nothing is imminent at this point.
The one note involving the Packers read, “The Packers have held talks about acquiring a receiver, sources say, but nothing has transpired as of yet. GM Brian Gutekunst will keep talking, and time will tell if they can come to a deal.”
Deja vu? That might as well have been the same report coming out of Green Bay for the past several seasons. They always seem to reportedly do their due diligence on all of the big players, but rarely come to a deal.
To be fair, part of that may be the price or unwillingness of the other teams involved. It was reported that Denver isn’t inclined to move Jeudy or Hamler unless it’s a great offer. Houston is open to exploring a trade involving Cooks, but the $18 million he’s guaranteed in 2023 is a huge issue for Green Bay. The Steelers want to keep Claypool around to help young quarterback Kenny Pickett.
With the deadline looming on Tuesday, it will be extremely disappointing if the Packers do absolutely nothing. At 3-4, they have several holes they need to fix if they want to be taken seriously at this point. What does standing pat tell the team? I’d almost rather have them become sellers than do nothing.
There are still a couple of days remaining and deadlines spur action. We’ll see if Gutekunst is willing to mortgage the future even further for one last chance to win. But, as of now, it seems like it’s the same old, same old.
