5 Big Things from the Green Bay Packers road win in Tampa Bay

Romeo Doubs makes the most of opportunities with Packers in Week 3
As Matt LaFleur said on Friday, rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs was going to have to play a larger role in Sunday’s game. The Packers ended up not having Sammy Watkins, who was placed on IR, while Christian Watson also missed Sunday’s contest with a hamstring injury of his own.
After having eight total targets in the first two games, Doubs had eight targets against Tampa Bay alone. He would catch all eight of those passes for 73 yards, along with his first NFL touchdown.
It was evident that in several situations, the Packers offense had plays designed to get him the ball. Just as importantly, he came up with the catch in those situations, after all, we know how important building rapport is with Aaron Rodgers, and making plays when your number is called is a great way to go about that.
What we saw from Doubs was the same things we saw from him at Nevada, where he was a very experienced pass catcher. The Packers utilized Doubs as the vertical threat in routes, which created better spacing and opportunities for other pass catchers. He was also used in the quick passing game where his speed was on display, not to mention lining up both inside and out, as well as impacting all three levels of the field.
Doubs ability to win in a variety of ways is what has allowed him to make such a quick impact on this Packers offense.
After a performance like that, specifically with the team needing him to make plays, you have to imagine that Doubs’ role is only going to continue to grow, even when Watson and Watkins are back in the mix.
