4 underwhelming performances in Packers uninspiring loss to Vikings
The Green Bay Packers laid an egg in their season-opener for the second year in a row and the third time in Matt LaFleur’s four seasons, falling to the Minnesota Vikings 23-7.
Unfortunately, this type of performance has become commonplace for the Packers when the new season begins. The themes were too familiar, with both the offense and defense looking wildly unprepared, the team lacking energy all around, and the results predictably unfavorable. Only the special teams looked competent, which is saying something.
It’s just one game and Green Bay bounced back after a more embarrassing whooping last year, but that isn’t going to make it any easier. Let’s check out four performances that left us wanting more.
The Green Bay Packers laid an egg in their season-opening loss at the Minnesota Vikings largely thanks to these four underwhelming performances.
Underwhelming performances: Eric Stokes
Eric Stokes is coming off a solid rookie campaign, but was unable to live up to that hype in Week 1 of Year 2. We’ll have to see what the official stats say when they come out, but it appears he was the primary defender on several big catches for the Vikings. His hips looked too stiff as receivers could hit him with one or two moves on their route before flashing open. For a team that touted three excellent cornerbacks coming into the year, it is a very slow start for all of them.
