The Green Bay Packers have mortgaged their future so they can keep players and remain competitive in the present.

It’s a bold strategy implemented by the Packers’ front office and one we haven’t seen in the recent past. Thanks to that strategy, Green Bay is one of the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this season. It’s allowed them to keep a lot of their significant contributors while adding at other positions.

The flip side of the coin is that life will get very difficult for them in the very near future. Green Bay will have even more salary cap hoops to jump through in the coming years, costing them talented players.

Whether it’s salary cap-related or another reason, eight players could be playing their final season in Green Bay in 2022.

The Green Bay Packers are in a tight financial situation, making the 2022 NFL season the last these eight players could suit up for in the green and gold.

Packers playing final season in Green Bay: Yosh Nijman

The Packers have lost a lot of offensive linemen to free agency in the past few years and Yosh Nijman could be next. He lined up as the starting left tackle for all training camp and preseason, but he will be sent to the bench if David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins are healthy enough to start.

Nijman is a nice swing tackle option for the Packers, and they’d love to have him back. However, in recent drafts, they’ve invested heavily in the offensive line and will likely go a cheaper route in Zach Tom, Rasheed Walker, or even Caleb Jones to fill that role. Nijman will also probably want an opportunity to start and get regular playing time at his next stop.
