Predicting the Green Bay Packers 2022 16-Player Practice Squad

Final Thoughts on Green Bay Packers Practice Squad
With a few of these players, namely Toure, Goodson, Walker, Jones, and Heflin, there is the possibility that they could go claimed. In fact, if any of them are, I won’t be surprised.
However, for the most part, that doesn’t happen too often. According to Ken Ingalls, out of the several hundred cuts that took place last year, only 27 players were claimed.
In part, that figure is so small because the claimed player has to be added to the new team’s 53-man roster, and there really is only a small sample size to go off of–usually less than 100 preseason snaps, which are most often taking place against backups.
So evaluating that player isn’t exactly the easiest, which means there is some risk involved for NFL teams when it comes to adding a player to their roster. A corresponding cut then needs to take place in order to make room on the 53-man, which means parting with a player that the team is likely very familiar with after seeing him practice all summer.
Again, because of the performances that each player had this summer, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of them were scooped up by another team. But because of the relative unknowns surrounding these players when it comes to opposing teams trying to evaluate them, these waiver claims don’t happen too often, with only about 3% of the cut players being claimed by a new team.
On the flip side, the same philosophy applies to the Green Bay Packers. Odds are they are going to try to bring back their own players. Although with that said, if they were going to explore outside options, I would venture to guess that the interior offensive line is a position group they could look to address.
