Green Bay Packers 2022 Practice Squad Prediction

QB (1): Danny Etling

Having a third quarterback on the practice squad for that just-in-case scenario is a must. Etling would also flash a bit in the preseason, especially as a ball carrier, and completed 77% of his 22 pass attempts for 220 yards with a touchdown.

RB (1): Tyler Goodson

Goodson had shown terrific burst as a ball carrier, not only in the preseason but consistently in practice as well. He also displayed that pass-catching ability that we saw at Iowa, hauling in eight of nine passes for 60 yards. As I wrote in my roster prediction article, I ultimately went with Patrick Taylor because of his ability on special teams and in pass protection.

WR (2): Samori Toure and Travis Fulgham

Toure very well could end up on the Packers’ 53-man roster, especially following his impressive performance in the preseason finale in which he led the team in receiver, which included some downfield tackles and missed tackles forced. But I opted for Juwann Winfree’s stability.

Fulgham was signed just days before the Packers’ preseason game against the Saints and saw very little action overall. However, he has found some success in the NFL — albeit a small sample size — making him someone worth hanging on to.

TE (1): Alize Mack

Mack is a move tight end who is at his best as a pass-catcher, although he only had one target in the preseason. He was consistently the fifth tight end in practice for the Packers, where he was used often as a blocker, which came with its ups and downs.

OL (3): Rasheed Walker, Caleb Jones, and Michal Menet

Walker and Jones both come with loads of up upside at the offensive tackle position — although both are still raw as well — so I imagine there is some concern about either of them clearing waivers. When it comes to Menet, he provides an interior presence for the Packers.

IDL (2): Jack Heflin and Chris Slayton

Heflin basically lived in the opponent’s backfield during the first and third preseason games, with his presence really being felt against the run. Slayton, meanwhile, was very good as a pass-rusher, finishing with five pressures, according to PFF ($$), the second most on the team.

Edge (2): Tipa Galeai and La’Darius Hamilton

The edge rusher battle, specifically for that fifth spot, was a close one all summer long, and even at this point, I’m not sure who is going to earn that roster spot. I would give it to Kobe Jones, but Galeai and Hamilton both routinely took snaps this summer with the second units and had several moments where they flashed. Galeai also saw his share of special teams snaps as well.

CB (1): Kiondre Thomas

Thomas really had an impressive preseason in which he allowed only one completion on seven targets, and it was for only eight yards. He was also in on a number of tackles in the run game and was utilized on several different special teams units.

S (2): Micah Abernathy and Tariq Carpenter

With Dallin Leavitt back at practice, it doesn’t look like he will need to be placed on IR. However, if he was, Abernathy positioned himself to be on the 53-man roster.

Abernathy lined up all over this Packers’ defense. He came away with an interception against New Orleans and nearly another in Kansas City while being very active as a tackler and holding pass-catchers to minus-three receiving yards.

The seventh-round rookie Carpenter had a quiet camp for the most part and missed some time with an injury, but we really saw what he was capable of in that final game as he flew around the field, making tackles. Carpenter has the makings of being a core special teams player one day but has to get better in coverage.

K (1): Ramiz Ahmed

Like the quarterback position, having an emergency option at kicker on the practice squad feels like a must. Ahmed has been very consistent since joining the Packers a few weeks ago.
