Bold prediction about Packers’ final 53-man roster: Keep Samori Toure over Juwann Winfree

Green Bay would open up a can of worms with Aaron Rodgers if they waive Juwann Winfree, nonetheless keep another wide receiver like Samori Toure over him, but it could be the right long-term move.

Winfree has been with the Packers for three years and will turn 26 years old before the regular season begins. Even though Rodgers likes him, what’s his best-case scenario? His ceiling is considerably lower than Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Amari Rodgers and even Toure. What’s the upside in keeping him (besides gaining Rodgers’ favor)?

Toure flashed in the preseason finale against the Chiefs and has the potential to develop into a receiver who can contribute on the field down the line. Even if they don’t keep Toure over Winfree, there’s not a football reason to keep Winfree on the roster.
