10 Questions about Green Bay Packers roster before final cutdowns
By Paul Bretl
Do the Green Bay Packers keep a 10th offensive lineman, and if so, who is it?
The Green Bay Packers have what we can consider nine roster locks at the offensive line position. And for what it’s worth, they’ve never kept more than nine on the initial 53-man during LaFleur’s tenure.
However, this year could be different. With the availability of both Elgton Jenkins and David Bakhtiari unknown for Week 1, they could choose to bolster their depth.
If they go that route, it will be between Caleb Jones and Rasheed Walker. Jones brings rare size to the position and has shown a lot of potential this summer, working his way up to the second offensive line unit.
Due to an injury with Walker, there is a much smaller sample size, but he really impressed against Kansas City, allowing no pressures at right tackle, and overall, his technique was further along than Jones’.
Again, part of the consideration will also be if the Packers feel that one or both can clear waivers and get to the practice squad. Green Bay could also choose to keep only nine offensive linemen and rely on practice squad elevations until either Jenkins or Bahktiair is available.
