Green Bay Packers 53-man roster prediction: CB, S, and Special Teams

Cornerback (6): Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Shemar Jean-Charles, and Rico Gafford

Previous prediction (6): Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Shemar Jean-Charles, and Kiondre Thomas

The sixth cornerback spot is the only question mark, and from a defensive standpoint, Kiondre Thomas has been the better player. However, the sixth cornerback is going to be on this roster for special teams purposes, and I don’t think the Packers will be able to pass up Gafford and his 4.22 speed.

Safety (4): Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Dallin Leavitt, and Shawn Davis

Previous prediction (5): Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Vernon Scott, Shawn Davis, and Dallin Leavitt

Shawn Davis has cemented himself as the third safety. I also expect the Packers to roster Dallin Leavitt to then place him on IR. That way, he has the opportunity to return at some point this season. That will create an opening on the roster, at which point the Packers can sign Micah Abernathy to the 53-man roster. I don’t see there being an issue getting him to the practice squad.

Special teams (3): Pat O’Donnell, Mason Crosby, and Jack Coco

Previous prediction (3): Pat O’Donnell, Mason Crosby, and Jack Coco

From the sounds of it, Mason Crosby will be ready for Week 1–now we wait and see. And while anything can happen at long-snapper, I think Jack Coco has performed well enough this preseason, with really no blemishes, to earn a roster spot.
